Comment: DeNero is a first-rate professor, very knowledgeable, yet he's also skilled at making references and jokes that people who are not hard-core CS can appreciate and enjoy, which I liked very much. The class is very well run, there is lots of support from the numerous TAs and lab assistants, and I think the assignments and labs do a good job helping you learn. Tests can be tricky, but that goes for any computer-science class, I think.

Comment: I love John DeNero! You can tell he really loves teaching and he taught me a lot in this class. I had programming experience coming in so the class was pretty straightforward for me, but even so I don't think you can go wrong with John DeNero. One of the greatest men of all time.

Comment: John is an amazing teacher! He tries hard to keep the course hip and the audience engaged! The assignments are usually pretty fun and the projects and amusing (Hog anyone?) The only problem is that his tests can be tricky, but they're not too bad.

Comment: Denero seems like a fine guy but I honestly hated this class. The huge class size really works against it. I liked the assignments and projects, but that's about it. The exams were pretty difficult and I never felt like I learned anything from them. They were just tricky for the sake of being tricky and they felt completely pointless. This class unfortunately turned me off from everything CS at Berkeley. (By the way, I got a good grade in the class, so I'm not just venting my anger; the class was just a really negative experience for me).
