Comment: He means well, and although he's incredibly awkward, he's also highly intelligent (just look this guy up. Seriously). His teaching style is remarkably ineffective, as are his jokes. The grading curve at the end kind of screwed people over, but if you do all the assignments and take the pop quizzes to bring up your midterm score, you should be just fine.

Comment: Gunther is very quirky and will do his best to lighten up the mood, but unfortunately there are only a handful of jokes that will make tired college students giggle at 8 AM. He is very kind, however, and will treat you with the utmost respect as long as you're being reasonable and respectful. His lectures are straight out of the book, which is findable online (wonderfully indexed, I might add). Assignments were fair, though I didn't like how he graded it with Ruby, because sometimes you would write the correct answer, but the script would not pick it up. Exams were very fair. Was not a fan of the optional pop quizzes. (The policy on that was that for each of the 4 pop quizzes, it was weighted 25% and averaged with your midterm score. If the quiz was not turned in, it is not averaged.) It essentially closed much of the gap between students whom did better on the midterm and those who did not. To be fair, he meant well.

Comment: Actually, I took the class in Spring 2013; the schedule states that it's taught by Alder, in fact; it's taught by Troung. He is very helpful. He answers every questions we asked in forum. The homework is not hard, but the exams, especially the T/F questions, are kind of tricky. You need to know the stuff well to get high grades in exams.

Comment: Arbel presents the material thoroughly, from a basic to advance topics. Attending lecture definitely helped, as did discussion. Material was useful in other classes as well.

Comment: Worst Professor so far. I thought the physics professors sucked because they kept droning during the lectures. This one topped the cake. She was lost the entire class. Everytime we pointed out something wrong with what she wrote she spent 5 mins figuring out what we were pointing out, and another 5 mins looking at her copy of the lecture notes, another 5 mins finding out where the mistake was on the board again before finally changing it. Then 5 mins to compose herself before starting to talk again. Don't even bother asking her a question or she would never finish because she would 1. Not understand you, 2. Not understand what you are asking, 3. Not understand what she is supposed to tell you, and 4. all of the above. Avoid at own peril, especially because the section was of little to no use.
