Comment: Couldn't have asked for a better R1B course. Very helpful and the workload is definitely manageable.

Comment: Totally awesome professor. While I'm not an English major or much of a book reader, I thoroughly enjoyed this course and for the first time actually felt like I learned something in an English class. There's no such thing as a perfect paper, but if you want an A in her class you are going to have to WORK for it. If you want a B, however, it's totally manageable if you go to her office hours and talk to her. That said, she is absolutely amazing to talk to during office hours! She's extremely helpful and understanding, and really wants you to write an awesome paper; go to her office hours and she will help you get pointed in the right direction if you have some ideas, and if you're totally clueless she'll ask the right questions to get you started in a good direction. She really wants you to do well in her class and genuinely cares about her students.

Comment: He made the process of writing easy except he is sometimes nitpicky about essays. I dont know if its just the rigor of an R1B but it was a lot of work.

Comment: Aileen is one of the best GSI's out there! She taught my R1B class about Shakespeare and Rom-Com and it was super interesting. We had 4 books to read and films associated with them. There are no prompts for essays she assigned us and we were allowed to submit revisions as many times as we wanted. She's also super helpful and helped me whenever I felt stuck in my writing. I feel like my writing has definitely improved because she advises her students exactly how to push our papers to that A-level. Ended up with an A- in the class probably because I didn't participate as much. But I still highly recommend taking an R1B/R1A course with her!

Comment: I'm not exaggerating when I say she is the BEST GSI in the entire English department here at Berkeley for English R1B. She is really chill, will go out of her way to help you succeed, worked at Marvel Comics, actually helps you become a better writer (I thought AP English from high school was good enough, but this class builds upon anything you learned in high school and gives you more as well), and she's just all-around awesome. The final paper was pretty cool too. It was a rhetorical analysis of anything we wanted. Like anything. I did the Uncle Sam poster, someone else did the cover of a Nintendo Mario game, etc. Take this class with Stephanie if you need to do R1B!

Comment: Katie's office hours were quite helpful...and the texts we perused were stimulating. Interestingly enough, tweeting counted towards our online participation grade.

Comment: He's a nice instructor who gives reasonable assignments and brings up interesting discussion points. However, class can sometimes be rather dull, and at times his essay grading feels a bit arbitrary.
