Comment: Candida is a professor that will appeal to a certain kind of student. He does not like handing out in-class exams to students which determine the bulk of their grade. He does not like keeping his readings tight, narrow, and focuses on a very obvious historical theme. Candida does, however, allow his students to read a great variety of material, touching on several class themes, and administers most of the graded work to be done at home, including exams. A lot of the reading he hands out will not be directly referenced in lecture, but you will still need to get it done. His course is heavy on reading. I could not keep up with all of the required reading, but I did well by getting at least some of the reading done each week--be warned, if you skirt the material, even one week, you'll receive a nasty surprise come exams. A good professor if you're a self-motivated student, looking for flexibility, and is diligent in his or her reading. Focuses especially on business/economic forces in American history.

Comment: Extremely boring lecture, but good class material. He does use powerpoint but stays on the same slide for about 789 years, so it's mostly just him talking. He's a really nice guy and obviously very knowledgeable. No homework, just a midterm, paper, and final exam; each are work 1/3 of your grade. This year, the final exam was given online because the original exam time slot was 7-10PM on the very last Friday; I'm not sure if having it switched to a take home final is standard practice or simply a result of our shitty exam time.

Comment: Pretty dry lecturer. She was okay. Gave out handouts, but spoke too fast and didn't really dwell on important events. Didn't use any visual aid which made it hard to focus for the entire hour and a half. No section so have to really focus. Three primary source essays aren't too bad, midterm and final are very hard.
