Comment: His assignments were easy points. Exams were fair, all MC. Studied more than I should for that class even though I am a NST major.

Comment: Lectures were poorly structured and useless, and assignments were boring. Exams also required a lot of pointless memorization, making the class a pain. This semester, averaged were so low that he decided to curve grades. However, it was also relatively easy to get an A, so it's worth it for the breadth / major requirement.

Comment: Great lecturer, don't know why they didn't have him for the entire semester. Exams are brute force memorization, and assignments are easy to lose points on.

Comment: A poor lecturer: it's up to you to review the textbook and discussion notes to get a good grade. His slides contain a lot of information that isn't on the exams, and rather advanced for the scope of this introductory course. Professor was generally unavailable, and probably did not care about most of the students in this course who were taking it just to satisfy breadth. Course is difficult if you are not good at memorization.

Comment: Like what others said- this class is very straight-forward if you are already knowledgeable in Bio or are majoring in Bio. Unfortunately for people like me who are not bio geniuses this class was a disaster. I consistently did poorly on the midterms so the assignments meant nothing (although my GSI (A. DiGiorgio) was one of the best-I definitely recommend her). Although many say this class is an easy A and is a GPA booster it did nothing but bring my GPA down.

Comment: Painful class. Lots of pointless memorization. I took it because it was easy and I needed a buffer class, but I regret it. I really do.

Comment: Exams are straightforward and easy to understand. However, the only thing I do for this course is go to discussion to hand in assignment and review slides. Overall it is an easy class if you do review the slides several days before the exams. One day, I accidentally went to the lecture. Professor Shane teaches at that time. It's boring for him reading the slides, or the content itself, or something else. I fall asleep in that lecture, the only lecture I attended.

Comment: His low, slow British accent was very boring, nearly lulled me to sleep. He knows a lot about vitamins and nutrition, but I did not pay much attention. This is the easiest class I have taken at Berkeley, since I was familiar with most of the material already. I got an A+

Comment: Sometimes rambling and strange, I could tell that he really wanted us to learn the stuff. Unfortunately, the majority of the class could not care less, and had a very basic knowledge of the material. Wasn't required to go to class at all. I did but stopped paying attention after the first exam. This class could be hard for those who know nothing little biology! But for a bio student, it is the easiest class. Super straightforward. Study the slides and the stuff that they say in lecture. Got an A+
