Comment: Margo is awesome, hands down. She has an incredible amount of professional experience that shows. Her down-to-earth, approachable attitude is great to learn from if you have little to no acting experience. As someone with previous acting experience, the course felt too elementary at times, but it covers a lot of bases to make sure you have a strong base for later on. One thing I really like about the way she runs class is that we get as much feedback from our peers as we do from her since we have group discussions about every individual's work. If that scares you, don't let it because it's a very positive environment. In terms of work, we had to write one monologue, perform one published monologue, and perform one 2-person scene Margo picked out for us. Along with those were some minimal character development write-ups. We were also required to see three performances (on- or off-campus) and write two-page reviews of them. Nothing is graded too harshly. There was also some assigned reading that was easy to digest. Expect an attainable but not effortless A; you will have to work a reasonable (but not time-consuming) amount.

Comment: Taking Theater 10 with Sam was awesome. He is a great professor and provides amazing feedback, which has really helped me improve in acting over the course of this semester. I came into this class with very little acting experience (middle school drama class), but coming out I feel that I have really learned a lot about acting technique and application. He had us do practice runs in front of the whole class in which he literally spends about 30 minutes critiquing us and finding fun ways to improve our acting. There are also warm-ups every day, which really made the stress of Berkeley fade away for a few moments (the whole class did so to be honest). The entire class was REALLY fun and a great way to spend six hours of my week. I would definitely say that taking this class with Sam is something that everyone at Berkeley should get to experience (not saying that is actually possible). I would 100% recommend taking this course with Sam.

Comment: I love Mel! From what I can tell, he seems to be a hit or miss kind of guy; students either love him to death or think he's all talk. In my opinion, I think he truly KNOWS what he's doing, and some students get butthurt and take things too personally. Mel is completely honest and open to opinions that are not his own. He's been a huge help to me in trying to act with honesty and truth. Highly recommended!
