Ratings for Bergman, G M
Based on 16 ratings for this instructor.
Comment: Like all upper division math classes, make sure to keep up with the reading and do/learn/understand psets thoroughly. Airtight understanding of material is necessary to do well on exams. Professor is enthusiastic, but bad lecturer.

Comment: Exams weren't too bad. The homework was long and boring, but that's math for you. Bergman's lectures rambled on about things that were completely unrelated to the subject. He was really hard to understand, because he mumbled a lot. He was really enthusiastic about math and was a nice guy, his lectures weren't helpful for an undergrad though.

Comment: Very intelligent, but the worst lecturer I've ever had at Cal. Absolutely incoherent, talks to the board, and is condescending towards student questions. Despite getting a 5 on AP Calc BC, I was still utterly confused by his lectures, and eventually I stopped going altogether. Exams are difficult but fair, barring the proof question on each one. Almost nobody got the proof question right when I took the class (he made an announcement in class). Avoid if possible. Seriously.

Comment: Lectures are AWFUL. He's so brilliant that he doesn't know how to explain what - to him - are basic concepts. If you take his class, expect to count on your GSI and your textbook exclusively. He seems like a nice guy, but he's one of the worst professors I've ever had.
