Ratings for Ligon, E
Based on 10 ratings for this instructor.
Comment: This class is extremely challenging. The hardest part are problem sets and they would be impossible without going to section and office hours. I liked how Professor Ligon suggested study groups this made my life much easier. I liked this aspect due to the competition at Berkeley. The problem sets aren't curved so there's no reason for people to not help each other. As long as you work hard on problem sets you will do fine. He drops one problem set and gives you a review sheet for midterm and final. Make sure you understand the concepts of problems on problem sets and know how to do the midterm and final review. Curve is extremely generous. Got an A in the class. This class is challenging but once you put in the work and get an A you will be satsified.

Comment: Your GSIs will be your go-to people for the next semester. Ligon's very pleasant and knows what he's doing... but his problem sets are pretty tough, as is the material that is covered in lecture. Brush up on your Math 16B skills because you'll be using them nonstop. Don't be afraid to ask questions; you'll have a LOT as the weeks pass. (Thankfully, Ligon responds to emails quickly.) Midterm is heavily curved, but if you REALLY know what you're doing, you should be able to get a B/C without the curve, which will most likely convert to an A.

Comment: Problem sets are extremely hard. Ligon is a great lecturer and explains the key concepts well, but I couldn't seem to apply those theories to the questions he asked of us. Thank god my GSI walked us through the application on the problem sets, otherwise I would be dead by now...

Comment: Ligon is the sweetest guy in the universe, I loved him! BUT I probably would've hated his guts if he wasn't such a nice guy. His problem sets are superrrrr hard; no way I would've gotten A's on them without the help of my incredibly smart study group and some aid from the GSIs. Exams are just as hard; I got a 39/100 on the midterm (INCLUDING extra credit) - equating to a B after the curve. So it's great that the curve is so generous, but be prepared to work super hard. It's an extremely tough class but his curve was incredibly generous. I <3 Ligon though.
