Comment: Assignments were very straightforward if you have a good CS background (61B or equivalent knowledge of data structures). To me, this class is more of a CS class on the topic of biology, and provides an introduction to the theoretical/algorithmic side of computational biology. Would definitely recommend knowledge of algorithmic complexity and analysis, as this is a pretty big topic on the exams. The final was fun - we played student-made card games about biology, which was a good chance to salvage your grade and have some fun during finals week. What you get out of this class is what you put into it - if you spend more time learning on your own, you'll get a lot more out of this course. And good news - the course is now taught in Python!

Comment: You get as much out of this course as you put in, honestly. The lectures are very dense and the amount of material you absorb is entirely up to you. Holmes is OK, not great, but alright. Labs are not graded, and generally aren't necessary by the end of the course. Exams are difficult - we had two take-home midterms that took a lot of time to complete.
