Ratings for Bustamante, C J

Comment: It's easy to tell that this class isn't first on Bustamente's priority list but his lectures were, nevertheless, kind of interesting. At times he would become really enthused about the topics (especially during the section on Biophysics--his own field of study) but he's just not that great at really explaining concepts. His tests were pretty difficult. The multiple-choice questions were often worded strangely and covered every single topic from the lectures, even those that seemed insignificant. The essay questions were pretty straightforward and the GSIs were really just checking to make sure you hit the main points of the topic without much care for style or errors in writing. If you're looking for a class that doesn't require a ton of work (if you have prior experience in Physics it'll be mostly smooth sailing) and you're a humanities type wanting to get the Bio req out of the way with as little pain as possible--go for it. If you want to take a fascinating class with a great professor and actually have fun learning, I'd recommend taking it with a different professor. Or maybe taking Astro with Filippenko?
