Comment: Amazing, amazing, absolutely great professor for Shakespeare. He has attendance as part of your grade, but it's very well worth it. Even if it wasn't part of your grade I would definitely suggest you go because the final is really just testing on understanding the concepts, themes, and close-readings of plays that he talks about in class. As long as you go to class and don't fall asleep in that time, you will do absolutely fine. Grading for the essays differ by GSI. Mine never wanted to give me anything higher than a B, but in her defense, I'm not the BEST writer in the world, though I do believe at least one of them could have gotten an A- at LEAST. Oh well, I'm not gonna complain, I guess... We had three essays, and a final that consisted of two more essays (lol). But man, the things that you will learn about Shakespeare and the English theater will blow your mind. As long as you are willing to sit there in that seat for 50 mins twice a week and really listen to what he's trying to say... the lectures will definitely be well worth it.

Comment: Fabulous course. Landreth is brilliant and a superb lecturer. Changed the way I think about Shakespeare and English in general (in a good way).

Comment: 45A was the first English class I took, and Landreth was my first English professor. I thought he was hilarious. A lot of students complained about how rambling his lectures were, and while I agree that they were often very hard to follow, the times when they made sense were "wow" moments. GSIs also really helped to make sense of his lectures. I never talked to him in office hours, but his final was incredibly easy and definitely helped raise my grade - he gives a great study guide.
