Comment: She's incredibly sweet, so helpful and willing to be flexible... so willing to be flexible that sometimes it was confusing to figure out what she actually wanted! She encouraged a lot of discussion, which was nice, though I did sometimes feel like a bit more direction from her would be nice. She is a very interesting, intelligent professor, and I definitely enjoyed her class.

Comment: The lectures were interesting and Prof. Abel clearly has enthusiasm for teaching. However, the final exam was challenging since it included many id.'s from short poems, essays, and novels. It was a lot to memorize, but it is expected from an English pre-req class. What made my experience easier is having a great GSI who provided useful feedback on my papers.

Comment: She is BRILLIANT when it comes to modern literature. During lectures, she sounds like she's reading out a very well-written essay, but that is just how she speaks. Her exams are very fair; just memorization of a few ID passages. If you followed along during class, you will do fine. She is really sweet and answers to emails quite well and is really sweet during office hours as well. Her final exam was difficult, but of course, this class depends purely on the 3 essays of the class. I had a very hard GSI, but I still got an A- because the section (20%) and midterm (15%) evened out my grade.
