Comment: This class was so-so for me. The concepts and ideas presented were worth thinking about - it could have been delivered in a more riveting way though.

Comment: Lakoff is super knowledgeable in his field and taking any class of his classes will be rewarding. That being said, Lakoff is not the best lecturer and assigns a ton of reading. If you want to learn about his theories and the evolution of his ideas, take this class. Otherwise don't.

Comment: Don't take Lakoff unless you have to. The basic structure of the class was him introducing his main ideas over the first few weeks, then pounding them into your head for the rest of the semester. Also, he was very much the type that presents all of his theories as right and clear and logical, and in the process of being "scientifically proven," and all opposing theories as clearly illogical and wrong.

Comment: Lakoff is not a great lecturer. In fact, "lecturer" is too strong of a word - he just gets in front of the class and rambles. If you put your own effort in and come to class with questions, you can usually direct the conversation towards something interesting. Unless Lakoff doesn't like your question, in which case he'll ignore what you said and answer whatever question he wanted you to ask instead. Having said that, the readings were very interesting, the concepts were fascinating, and the GSIs were spectacular!! Eve Sweetser came and gave a guest lecture one day and she was fantastic, so maybe take it with her if you can.

Comment: This is not a course for the faint of heart. Professor Lakoff is a brilliant man with many interesting ideas but the lectures are boring and the reading is HEAVY. Take this course if you are interested in philosophy.

Comment: Seems to know the material really well, but talks repetitively. Isn't interested in contrasting ideas on the subject. Just listen to what he has to say and I think you'll be okay. He's teaching the course, after all ...not the students! :]
