Comment: I really enjoyed this class! Unfortunately I had it from 4-5 pm so it was an awkward time of day to be sitting in class in my opinion. I would've enjoyed it even more if it had been at a better time.

Comment: It took me a while to get used to Blanton's way of talking; there were a lot of times in the beginning where I couldn't understand what he was saying due to a combination of being both abstract and verbose. He's pretty humble and friendly otherwise.

Comment: Blanton is a brilliant orator. he is a badass who blew me away and made this class one of my favorites. Honestly I had friends from other courses join me in order to marvel at his genius. He is concise and informative, thus lectures are a must but wildly amusing as well so you won't want to miss anyway. I am not an english major but honestly after this class I was tempted. It is a lot of work due to the load of books required and the essays are ment to be analytical which means you need time BUT I recommend this class to anyone who wants to experience a professor who knows what the hell is up.

Comment: Blanton is brilliant. His lectures can be hard to follow at times because they are as intricate and layered as the texts he analyzes - they are more of eloquent, 1 hour oral essays than lectures. Paper prompts are really open-ended, GSIs my semester were great (Spencer was awesome). Overall, this was one of the best English courses I've taken at Cal.

Comment: Assignments: 3 Essays of increasing length (2-3, 5-6, 7-8) pages for increasing amounts (10-20-30%) Final consisted of IDing 12 of 15 passages, analyzing 4 of them, and writing a synthesis essay that combined 3 works toward one overarching theme on a list. Nothing impossible.
