Comment: Michael is definitely one of the best linguistics professors I have ever had at Berkeley. He is very nice, knows the material, and presents it in an extremely fun way. Unfortunately, he has left Berkeley, but if he ever comes back, anyone interested in linguistics should take a class with him!

Comment: This class was, to be honest, fairly easy. It did not require too much work. If you keep up with the readings and contribute occasionally in class you will do fine. He wasn't to tough of a grader with essays either.

Comment: Easy class. More of an emphasis on sociolinguistics than the actual writing process, so it didn't really feel like an R&C class. Assignments consist of only a few papers, outlines, drafts, responses to readings, and attendance. I didn't have perfect attendance and didn't turn in one draft and one reading response. Still managed an A- despite how little we were graded on.

Comment: Great professor who always comes to class prepared and is clearly very knowledgeable about the field of linguistics. Some of the assigned readings are a bit dull. Also, the focus of the course is more about linguistics than how to write research papers.
