Comment: You're allowed to miss three lectures and two labs. Just bring work from other classes and it's not so bad. Paying attention didn't help me at all. The first midterm tests you mostly on vocabulary from the online textbook, so reading the textbook didn't help much...there's a glossary of terms that he tells you to focus on. It wasn't hard, but it was hard to know what you should study for. The labs seemed like a waste of time, because you don't get graded on anything. They were supposed to reinforce lecture material I guess, but they only put me to sleep. I studied two hours for the final exam. 50 points of it was being able to recognize the title/artist of a song from a 20 second clip. He gives you 18 or so songs to learn, and they're all very different. The rest of it was listening to 1-3 minutes of a song and describing it using the terms from the online textbook. We listened to five songs, and chose which four were the best. The fifth song, your worst analysis, was crossed off, but it could be used for extra credit if it was good enough. This class was incredibly easy considering how little I studied for it.

Comment: I was really excited for this course...until I realized that what the course meant by music was actually noise. Be prepared for a lot of pretentious talk about (for the most part) terribly cacophonous sounds. Campion was really entertaining and the structure for the class made up for it. Not hard to get a good grade, but not the most pleasant A.
