Comment: She's really boring and monotoned. She thinks she's funny sometimes when she isn't. Has a lot of iclicker quizzes and group projects. Hope you get a good group to work with.

Comment: Lectures were alright. Sometimes would get boring and repetitive. I had difficulty with exams and studying for them. You should look into the SLC and see if they are offering Soc 5 study group. The projects were decent(helps if you have a strong/reliable group mates).

Comment: I find Haveman a good/interesting lecturer, who tells jokes that are sometimes hard to hear because she tends to trail off when telling them/ends up mumbling to herself. I feel that the content of the course tends towards the shorter/easier part of the spectrum of courses at Berkeley, and Haveman sometimes feels repetitive because she has nothing else to cover. The assignments seem to move between an extreme of trivially easy (analyze a few tables) to the painful (the participant observation project that involves spending hours doing observations and then hours writing out your analyses), although the latter is nowhere near as tiring as actual field work. I feel that the exams are a bit easy, but sometimes take off points for missing small details on the FRQs.

Comment: professor Haveman was boring. i had a hour and a half class, and I fell asleep everytime she lectured. she also made some thoughless comments that were uncomfortable. worst professor ever.

Comment: alright professor. Tries to keep lectures interesting, which I'll give credit for, but sometimes seems willing to make fun of students' questions in class to get laughs, so not very approachable. Assignments and projects weren't very fulfilling. If you have a good GSI, you'll be set -- most of the things you learn will be from discussion
