Comment: See below for info; also look at Kaufman's website for syllabi of previous offerings for Stat 157 (Topics: Bayesian Statistics). I feel like it should be /mandatory/ to take some class with a Bayesian-focus, since that's the paradigm that shows up a lot in industry (esp. if you do computational statistics: machine learning, AI, etc. are all Bayesian-approaches to learning parameters). The instructor boiled everything down very well. The "assignments" were just practice problems to do before class, and the material itself is not particularly hard but worthwhile. The exams are very fair, especially since she gives practice exams which are very close to the "real" exam formats. Would definitely recommend this instructor and exam.

Comment: Nothing horrible to say about Cari's class. Wonderful experience; I strongly recommend Stat majors taking a class with her before you graduate. She's clear, nice, helpful, and even humorous. This class was about Bayesian statistics, and you really get to learn the difference between a Bayesian perspective and the frequentist statistics we learn in all the other classes. It's a great introduction to expose you to a different way of thinking of statistics, and Cari is a wonderful instructor to take care of this task. You get assignments for every class session, and you sign-up if you think you've done the problem correctly for participation points. While I do believe this was weighed too heavily (everything had equal weight, i.e. 20% Midterm 1, 20% Midterm 2, 20% Participation, 20% Presentation, 20% Final), and I ended up not doing as well as my other scores reflected (recruiting season heh), the assignments in terms of content was very thorough and proved to be good resources. Everything was very reasonable, if you just put in a little effort to understand what she teaches. Definitely recommend, though it looks like it's not offered very often.

Comment: She is such a awesome professor, probably the best statistics professor at UC Berkeley! She explained all the concept clearly and she aims to help students learn how to code and different techniques. We don't even have a midterm. Finals was extreme fair and we had a final presentation!

Comment: Good prof, but talks really quietly can sometimes put students to sleep.

Comment: Time intensive course, but very very useful. Exams were pretty easy, and most of the grade comes from homework, which takes a long time, but you should get a good grade on as long as you program it semi-correctly.
