Comment: Don't take Prof. Mackil's class if you don't have to. Rather, don't go to lecture if you don't have to. I succeeded in this class by attending discussion sections and reading from the textbook. My GSI did a good job of illustrating important concepts, but Mackil's lectures were just painful, and were usually about half to two-thirds empty. It's not that Mackil doesn't care about history; she clearly does. But she fails at communicating anything meaningful about the extraordinary subject matter to her class. It's a shame, because the text is really quite interesting. You can get an A by studying the IDs for the tests in detail and consulting with your GSI for help on the papers. Not the most stimulating class out there.

Comment: Her lecture slides are directly from the textbook, and she is a really really boring lecturer. She is great at her subject, and an expert in her field, but not the greatest teacher.
