Ratings for Doumani, B
Based on 8 ratings for this instructor.
Comment: This was hands-down the most rewarding course I have taken at Cal. Doumani is very knowledgeable, unbiased, and enthusiastic. The GSI's were among the most talented I have talked to and always willing to help. Take this if you're genuinely interested in washing away those stereotypes of the Middle East or have a willingness to absorb years of amazing and fascinating history in only one semester.

Comment: Great professor, very interesting lectures, fair exams, GSIs are very helpful. A lot of reading and weekly writing assignments but they tie in well to lecture and are not graded. Amazing class, Doumani is a great teacher!

Comment: Professor Doumani is a very good instructor, but his essays (around 4 a semester) are VERY specific. Two are take home essay exams, but he only gives a week in advance. Also, you are expected to submit a reading response once a week. There is a lot of reading, but it is very interesting. Take the class if you want to be there and are truly interested--don't if you just want to fulfill a breadth because it is a lot of work

Comment: Lectures were kind of boring, but Doumani is definitely a nice guy who knows his stuff. There's also a good amount of reading that you need to keep up with to do well. Good class if you have any interest in the Middle East.

Comment: This class is difficult, as difficult as an upper division Euro or American history course. The lectures are engaging and fun, but repetitious with the reading. There is a lot of reading, as with any history course. But everything is manageable. The course is a great overview of the Middle East. Going into it I knew nothing about the middle east, but now I'm busting knowledge. :P
