Comment: I really don't recommend this class unless you know absolutely nothing about Berkeley or you're a lazy/shy person who can't find out on your own. It helps with basic things like libraries, office hours, and whatnot. To be honest I wouldn't have done some of the things without this class, but taking it definitely isn't necessary for your freshman experience. You'd end up doing most of these things on your own anyways. It's recommended by L&S advisors, but lecture is really boring, especially if you're not interested in the subject, and discussion is pretty pointless. The one useful thing I learned was where the Career Center is.

Comment: this class is really helpful. it will make you interested in subjects you had never thought of. And assignments are really practical such as going to office hours and it's really helpful. definitely recommend.

Comment: L&S 1 did not really help me decide on a major, but it was really interesting to listen to different speakers from various backgrounds. I would highly recommend first year students to take this class because it really is a good transition class from high school. Schwartz provides you with a lot of resources like library and career center tour to guide you through your four years here at Berkeley. Also, the writing assignments were really easy.

Comment: No exams so can't really give a score for that. If you want to get something out of this class, you have to be engaged during the lectures/do all the reading assignments! I was confused about what to choose about my major and still am, unfortunately. But I can honestly say I have a better understanding of the potential majors there are now, though!
