Comment: Professor Selvin seems like a really nice guy, but he really struggles to communicate at times. Lectures consist mainly of him reading out of the textbook (that he wrote). Meaning, you won't get much more clarification from lecture that you can't find in the book. Discussion sections are optional, but mandatory if you need help with anything (not likely for any statistics pros, but the way the class is taught, you may need to brush up on a couple things). Overall, not terribly difficult, but very uninformative.

Comment: Class attendance isn't really necessary if you attend the sections and keep up on the homework. GSI's really make or break the course. Exams are very fair and if you put in work and keep up on the homework you will get a good grade.

Comment: He's a decent lecturer...although not worth the 8AMs in my opinion. It's an introductory statistics course so if you have any decent background in statistics this will not be a difficult class in any way. If you don't, homeworks are going to be annoying--the book, ironically written by Selvin, is rather poorly written and makes solving the problems difficult. That being said, the midterm and final are significantly easier, but make up 90% of your grade (yup). Overall...it's an introductory statistics class with a pretty entertaining professor

Comment: Professor Selvin reminds me of a grandpa--very friendly and enthusiastic about course material but sometimes his explanations can seem very convoluted especially if you've never taken statistics before. However, the class wasn't too difficult as long as you kept up with the lectures, referenced the books and went to weekly lab sections. I took a stats class in high school so the material wasn't very hard for me--just a midterm , final and homework counting for your overall grade.

Comment: This class isn't that difficult if you keep up with the material or already know stats. Most people didn't attend lecture (but probably did fine). For non-majors it's annoying to wait to see if you can get in though.
