Comment: This class is easy academically-wise, but pretty boring otherwise. Take it if you want an easy A, but just note that you'll be bored off your mind. The material is pretty interesting itself, and is not so much about the Bible in western culture as it is about satirizing pretty much every notable Christian writer to date. Granted, I took this class as a Christian wanting to know more about what others have to say, but the arguments weren't presented in the greatest academic context and severely biased off the professor's views (we did have to read his book, after all). Nevertheless, a lot of people in the class seemed to enjoy it (maybe because a lot of them were freshman, and this is a discovering course). Take it as you will.

Comment: While exams were graded kind of harshly, this was an amazingly interesting class. Hendel especially always made me think about religion, philosophy, etc. He is clearly an expert in the subject of the Hebrew Bible, and it was cool to read his book about it. Class was a very open environment- open to differing views, opinions, interpretations, and questions. I loved it, only wish we had more time to spend on each topic/reading.
