Comment: Pros: The content of the class is kinda useful as it databases are used everywhere. Additionally you learn about concurrency control and locking and stuff which are all useful concepts. His assignments were quite relevant to what appeared on the midterm and final exam Cons: He didnt put much effort into the class AT ALL. Some projects contained bugs when first released. The average response time on Piazza was something like 10 hours. He himself never responded and there were only 1 or 2 TAs who ever did. I think this might be because he knew this was his last semester but it was still really annoying.

Comment: Exams were easy, but the SimpleDB projects felt a little bit dumb.

Comment: The professor did not teach well. There were too much information given to us. The textbook sucks and the lecture slides did not help either. In addition, big data (which is a hot topic now) was only taught in the last lecture. Assignments were not very good although it was not too hard to get full credit.

Comment: There's not much flow to lecture, his wording sometimes stops halfway and it gets really hard to concentrate in order to understand what he's talking about. Projects were pretty easy; last project was really difficult if you didn't do the first three projects correctly (it's really easy to get perfect for the projects but the tests aren't super conprehensive... ) Piazza wasn't very helpful, some questions were never answered and some questions take over a day to get a response from instructors. There's just too much information to take in for this class, slides of millions of words don't help either. Exams were pretty similar to previous years.

Comment: I feel like I didn't get the grade I deserved, but aside from that, this class is worth taking. It's taught well, the concepts are interesting, and Franklin's a pretty good professor. The homework assignments (there are 4 coding "homework" assignments that are really projects, and 1 actual answer-these-questions homework assignment) are pretty interesting, but they seem to cover a pretty narrow range of the topics we covered in class. The exams are fair (maybe a bit too easy; the average seemed to be a bit high for the 2nd midterm and final). Definitely take this class, because it's really useful!
