Comment: He seems like a nice guy, but he's not a very good teacher. His lectures are sort of boring and often confusing, so I never felt like I got much out of them. He seems to hugely lack confidence, which made me lack confidence in him. Any potentially interesting point he might make was immediately undercut by a "I don't know, does that... make sense?" He let his reader interrupt students to talk on and on about her own thoughts, which I felt was inappropriate. On the plus side, his exams were easy and the reading list he chose was mostly great.

Comment: Professor Gordon speaks lightly, so make sure to sit at the front of the class. Other than that, he's absolutely wonderful. The exams were incredibly easy and fair (he gives you the quotes you'll be writing on beforehand) and the book choice was pleasurable. There were 2 essays, 5-6 pages each. Easily one of my favorite English professors.

Comment: He was so boring, so uninspired, so unwilling to work with the students... the exams are reading checks, his lectures tests in patience and sanity.. he is not an educator. i took this course pass/fail and passed, so its not like i'm trashing him because i got a bad grade. he made me question, more than most professors, what exactly i'm paying for here at cal. he is not equipped to teach. 2 very good books in the course though. also we had terrible, unreachable, rude, idiotic reader who could not function without asking him clever things to boost her moist and ravenous ego.

Comment: Was a shy lecturer for the first half of the course, but eventually warmed up and was full of insights and witty quips. Be sure to sit towards the front of the room in order to hear him. The essays (2) were fair and both the midterm and the final were simple if you read the books. Overall, good professor with an excellent taste in fiction.

Comment: Gordan definitely knew his stuff but he had difficulty in communicating his material. He confused the class a bit but his writing style is different from high school so you pick up new writing skills.

Comment: His class was mostly quiet. Not a lot of people participated in the discussions it was the same people every time. He is a great guy and helpful. He is very passionate about the works we discussed in class even though they were mostly depressing and confusing. Overall he is a great teacher that will go out his way to help his students.

Comment: Doesn't seem terribly experienced... Our class was quiet and he had a lot of trouble sparking dialogue. However, he's very passionate, knows his stuff, and is both fair and reasonable, if a bit dull sometimes.
