Comment: The TAs are great and very helpful. Assignments are doable, but the projects are not very well thought out.

Comment: The best class at Cal. Assignments were pretty dry though, not to mention unclear. Many students opt for 61A because of Python and the normal class environment, and I don't blame them.

Comment: Don't take class! Take the regular CS61AS. Although this class is "self-paced," there are still deadlines. You might want to take this because there are no midterms, but there are quizzes every week that worth as much as the midterms! And they're hard. Final's also super hard. Don't recommend this course at all.

Comment: DO NOT TAKE IF YOU HAVE NO PROGRAMMING EXPERIENCE. They told me that even though I didn't have experience I would be okay because it is a self-paced course and I would catch on easily. WRONG. It was the worst class I have ever taken, hands down. 95% of the learning comes from reading pages and pages of incredibly dry and dense material, and the "instructors" (engineering/CS undergrads) were condescending and didn't know how to explain anything. The professor showed up at the class like one time, and didn't even teach at all, just said hi and that's it.

Comment: When I took this course, it was very unorganized, with deadlines, announcements, and other things changing all over the place. There are also quizzes for every unit (average 4), and these are like mini-midterms, with problems sometimes actually pulled straight out of old CS61A midterms. The quizzes and changes did not help me in trying to take the class more seriously, although all the TAs are incredibly helpful and awesome. They always try to swing the grades in your favor.

Comment: This course's difficulty is definitely dependent on how much effort you put in. Professor Harvey isn't there too often, because this is a self-paced class. The assignments aren't too difficult, but whatever questions you have, you can ask other students or the GSIs. The quizzes are probably the hardest part of this class, because they cover things in the readings that aren't necessarily in the labs themselves. The final, and there is one no matter what some may say, is a lot easier than the quizzes. This class is definitely doable but try to keep up with the assignments.

Comment: Didn't feel the lectures were closely related to the materials. The class overall was pretty awesome, the reason I chose to be CS major
