Comment: Wright is definitely very knowledgeable and passionate about anything he does. The topic of this seminar was classic movies which was pretty interesting once I gave it a chance. But, be warned, classic movies means all the way back to the very first black and white films! I thought this was an excellent choice of seminar but the time block was incredibly inconvenient. All of my other classes were before noon so this three hour long monster was a horrid outlier. I ended up dropping the class after the first lesson because I could barely keep my eyes open! The professor seemed nice enough but the course was not worth it.

Comment: Great class. Loved the way we were taught a style and then actually had to incorporate it by turning in a print the next week. It got a little difficult because of the time darkroom development took up, especially since the weekly assignments weren't even graded, but it was enjoyable nevertheless. Wright is a great professor and really knows what he's talking about. Lectures are nice because they're only once a week, but they're quite long, so they drag on a little bit, especially in a dark room with a projector running....nap time is awkward when there are only 8 people in the class....

Comment: Easily the worst teacher at Cal. He obviously knows a lot about Roman art, but his lectures are pretty boring and the only relief is when he rants about terrorists or politics. There is no discussion section, as he doesn't believe in them, so lecture is 6 hours a week, in a dark room with two ancient slide projectors. He is also the rudest person I have ever met. He told a classmate her homework was bullshit and told her to rip it up right there in front of the class. I could go on and on about how horrible he is. Bottom line: never take a class with Mr Wright
