Comment: I took English R1A, section 14 - "Storytelling". No exams so ignore that. Just essays. Ruth is really nice and patient. She does try to help her students. She's a fair grader, I would say. Just don't procrastinate... she can see through procrastination and... try not to start the essays 2 hours before they're due (which would usually be Fridays at 5 PM), as... she'll see through that. There's quite a bit of reading. Some books I didn't particularly like or were boring. Try to keep up with the reading, otherwise you won't understand the discussion and your participation points will drop heavily. Participation counts for basically an entire letter grade, so watch out - tardies, absences, and not reading the assigned reading (and so you can't participate in the discussion because you have no idea what's going on) will KILL your grade. Overall, she's a pretty nice teacher, though.

Comment: Harsh but fair grader. If you take her suggestions on your essays seriously, you'll definitely improve throughout the semester. Definitely see her in office hours! Pretty enthusiastic in class discussions, but the class wasn't as willing to talk at 8am.
