Comment: very good intro class. Take it if you are new to environmental studies. Lectures are nice and GSI is very helpful. Exams require a lot of memorization but it is pretty straightforward. No need to buy any textbook.

Comment: Professor Amundson's lectures were good (he incorporated lots of funny videos and informative clips which were interesting). Attendance isn't required. Tests are more detail-oriented than one might expect but are easy to do well in by going over slides and the reader. Class also includes 3 writing assignments (4-5 pages each) which aren't graded too harshly (at least from my GSI) but do require some research to write. Great class overall and fair grades (put in decent effort, got an A).

Comment: Amundson is a great lecturer because he uses a combination of video clips, lecture slides, etc, so it's easier to keep focused on what he's saying. He also is usually very clear and always willing to consider what students have to say. My only issue was that the essay assignments were kind of dull, and the the first exam had some tricky obscure questions. Very doable class though!!

Comment: He's a very good professor, and this class opened my mind to a wide variety of issues. One of the problems I have with this class is that it is very biased in terms of politics. This bias shows in exams, where complex issues are turned into simple true and false, example, True of false: the monsanto corporation is an company which harasses farmers through its monopoly over genetically modified seeds. In general, the exams did not have the depth of the material that was taught. But overall, the class was very illuminating. Not only did we learn about global issues, but also issues regarding UC berkeley, such as the Strawberry creek. So a fun class to be in!
