Comment: One of the best lecturers I've seen ever. I have no idea how he is able to answer almost any question asked. His lectures are interactive, and extremely useful. You can easily fail if you skip class. His assignments could have been more interesting though

Comment: Hardest course I've taken thus far at Berkeley (though it is a graduate level course). Lectures are very informative, if not a little fast. No actual homework, except for final project. Tough project, but a project that made me feel like I learned something at the end of it. Exams are fine, just go over course notes.

Comment: Since lecture was at 9 AM, and I'm a late riser, I didn't make too many of the lectures. Thankfully, Subramanian addressed previous criticisms pretty well. Thus, the material was on many online videos (definitely watch these, they help on all aspects of the class), and he went through specific examples in lecture. Vivek has a really loud voice, which is probably good since it was at 9 AM. He's often pretty enthusiastic about the material, and entertains all questions and concerns thoroughly. Exam averages ranged from 40%~60%, so don't be alarmed if you score pretty low; the class is curved. The final exam average was 18~19/40, which was worth 50% of the course grade, and it had a lot about buffers, which wasn't covered too thoroughly in lectures. However, overall a good class, and Vivek is a pretty decent professor.

Comment: Very enthusiastic and pretty good lecturer. Tries to work out lots of examples in class, which helps. That being said, the problem sets didn't look anything like the exams, all (4) of which he told us he intentionally made weird. They'd probably be easy if you had more EE experience and intuition, but for an introductory course for non EE majors, it seems like a pretty stupid idea. It was difficult to understand exactly what the questions wanted, and with only an hour for each midterm, it's really hard if you don't immediately see how to approach a problem. He also has sort of weird ideas about partial credit on exams...he won't give you points for doing the first part of a problem incorrectly but the rest consistently, but he will give you credit if, by blind luck, the equations you arrived at using the wrong method happen to match the answer key. I feel like that rewards luck more than actual knowledge. And the lab section is utter shit because you're expected to use components and equipment you've never seen before in lecture and thus have no conceptual or practical understanding of (pre-labs don't adequately teach you what you need to know). But I ended up scoring near perfect in the lab section anyway because we had super chill GSIs who helped us out. So there is that.

Comment: Cons: Little partial credit on the homeworks, tests are very challenging. Pros: Overall very helpful and enthusiastic. You can tell he's very knowledgeable about the material he's teaching. Good at explaining concepts and walking through problems in class. Class was a great introduction for someone who's never taken EE before, though the material did get relatively thick towards the end of the semester.

Comment: The instructor/enthusiasm rating is for the corresponding EE42 course, as there is no instructor for the lab, other than the lab assistant. The helpfulness rating was left untouched, as different labs thus have different lab assistants. There are also no exams, which means that my only rating is for assignments. As a pure-lab "class" that moves faster than the accompanying class, the class is effectively self-studying the material with little guidance and high expectations. The assignments thus become quite difficult.
