Ratings for Gomer, J
Based on 2 ratings for this instructor.
Comment: Gomer is an awesome lecturer, really tries to engage the students in viewing films with a critical mind. Low workload, just 2 papers, first one an analysis of a sequence (~ 5 pages), and the second one a more in depth critique of an entire film (7-8 pages). Readings are fairly long, but I got by with short skimming and getting some key points. There is also one midterm (work fast!) and one final. Gomer's a cool guy, go to his office hours he loves talking about films, definitely would recommend for AC requirement and arts/lit breath.

Comment: Nice and easy way to get rid of AC requirement while learning a few things about Hollywood and racism in the US, emphasis on "racial formation", which was pretty interesting. I really loved that we watched movies and read fiction instead of boring textbooks. Chan is Missing was awesome! Only 2 papers for the semester; one was 1.5 pages, the other 6-8 pages. Grading was very nitpicky though. You'd get points off for the smallest things and tests are not curved. Overall, easy to get a B, work a little harder for an A, but definitely doable.
