Comment: EE 126 is a very difficult course that covers a very broad and large amount of material in probability, inference, and applications of those areas. Ramchandran is a very good, enthusiastic lecturer, though he tends to be somewhat condescending. The class is a very difficult one - expect to spend 12 hours per problem set, with similarly difficult and length exams. I felt this was excessive, to the extent where it impeded the class's learning. Another major flaw in my view is that to succeed in this class requires very strong intuition around probability, despite the fact that the class does not do a great job of building that intuition (so you have to build it yourself). Exam questions almost always have a "trick" that lets you solve them quickly, but you have to have the intuition to see the trick. Tons of people ended up dropping the class after the first midterm (which made the class even harder, because the people who were left were stronger mathematically). Unfortunately, there are few alternatives to this class, so I do recommend it, but I would caution against taking any more than 1 technical alongside this class.

Comment: Ramchandran is a great professor. Cares a lot about the material, teaches a lot, and explains it well. Class itself is tough, but very rewarding. Assignments are very tough, but there is the support in the form of homework parties and you learn a lot from doing them.

Comment: A very nice class overall. The professor's presentation style is good. He follows the textbook fairly closely. Assignments are designed so that it wouldn't take long if you fully understand the material, but can take long if you don't understand certain parts. Exams are slightly easier than the homework, and weren't too bad in general.

Comment: Homework was mind blowingly hard. Taught you well though if you figured it out by reading and thinking hard... DO NOT think going to hw parties and sucking up answers from TAs/peers counts as doing the hw well. If you do the hw well, exams are not bad -- pretty fair. Spend the time on the homework, go to office hours to understand the difficult material, and you can get an A. Ramchandran is a funny guy and great lecturer. The material is truly beautiful (my favorite class in EECS).

Comment: We got Homework Parties, which were pretty awesome and much needed for me. This class was definitely you get it or you don't. But, the GSIs and the Professor Ramchandran were very open to questions and accommodating to student struggles and needs. It was a rather enjoyable experience taking this class even though the material is a struggle to grasp at times. As long as you get it though, you should be good. Assignments made you think. Exams were very fair. Nothing unexpected showed up, completely doable. You just would struggle with time. Labs were fun.

Comment: For me the class was pretty much "meh", although I thought the labs were really awesome. Prof. Ramchandran is a good lecturer that helps you understand the qualitative aspects behind the math, although for me the trouble was getting through the math. The labs were all redesigned to be in Matlab and had a lot of cool things like image processing (creating MS Paint-like functions for images), sound processing (generating guitar music from artificial signals, building a Shazam), etc. I felt like homeworks generally didn't help much with understanding the material, and it was difficult to even study for this class. The exams were reasonable, but I just feel like I didn't have enough practice with the material. It seemed like a "you get it or you dont" class to me.

Comment: Assignments were dull, but they pretty much had to be. Was willing to expose us to more mathematically rigorous arguments, which is a plus if you feel like learning more.

Comment: Assignments are self graded and can be tricky. Exams are a bit easier than the homeworks. He let us retake the midterm for partial credit back. Office hours are essentially student-run while he sits in the background and gives us hints.
