Comment: Professor Dewulf is absolutely a delight!! As a human being, he is the epitome of kindness and empathy. There were days when I would head into his office hours, and with open arms he would patiently listen to my current experiences of facing mental and physical health issues while trying to balance my assignments and extracurriculars. There was a time where I was at an all-time low with my self-esteem and self-worth all but gone. I went to Professor Dewulf during his office hours, explained my situation and he pulled me out of my downward spiral with kindness alone. When I had attendance issues in the class, he would be very understanding and give my great fatherly advice on how to better my participation, enjoy the class and material, and ace the midterm. I aced the midterm and realized Prof. Dewulf lifted my spirits. Now I'll highlight some aspects of his class. His exams are very fair and open-notes and open-reader. Although it might seem like a time crunch with only 50 minutes to finish the midterm, there was more than enough time to finish the final, which is 3 hours. Also, take good notes and tabulate sections of post-midterm assigned readings for easy reference during the exams. Participation and attendance are key as Professor Dewulf count them for a fifth of the grade. Lastly, it is a joy to learn about Dutch history in New York thru Prof. Dewulf's lively teaching style, and it is hands down the most enjoyable class I have had at Cal, and a great way to knock out the AC requirement.

Comment: I'm a senior and Jereon is the BEST prof I have ever had at Cal. He is so nice and sweet and he made this history class extremely engaging. Workload is reasonable and the tests are graded leniently as well. LOVE LOVE!

Comment: Fantastic instructor. Enjoyable course material, even if you're only taking it for the AC credit. Take good notes and you'll ace the midterm/final; read and complete the weekly responses early and you'll ace the homework section. Attendance and participation count for credit, so don't skip class. Professor Dewulf really wants all of his students to enjoy the course.

Comment: Class was extremely interesting and enlightening. Jeroen is also the sweetest guy ever. However it was pretty and it was clear that a large contingent of the class was there for that reason and took advantage of it.

Comment: Weekly responses, open note midterm and final. Dewulf is very enthusiastic whenever he teaches and tries to engage the students as much as he can. He even tried to get to know everyone's name despite having about 80 people in the class! Grading is quite lenient but you do need to attend class regularly and respond on time for the weekly bcourse question. Missed 5 classes, and 2 weekly responses and still received an A-! Fairly low work load too, about 2-3 hours a week.

Comment: He is so nice, and the course materials are so interesting. I read the whole reader for the first time in berkeley because he's lectures were fun. He is very kind to the students and willing to help them.

Comment: Very relaxed class with pretty minimal work. Grading was based on attendance, weekly 300 word responses, and two open-book, open-note exams. Dewulf is incredibly nice and genuinely wants to help all his students and get to know them as much as he can. He's very accommodating to students' needs too. I'd say the amount of work is about 3 hr/week to get an A assuming you show up to class and talk too. I'd recommend any class with Dewulf!
