Comment: This class is not very helpful, at least the pilot version wasn't. However, the professor, Ani Adhikari, is a really good teacher and the co-professors were CS superstars like John DeNero, Michael Jordan and David Wagner. Didn't attend too many lectures though, since they were at 10 am. Hands-on method of teaching. Highly enthusiastic. Has a good sense of humour which keeps the class awake. Connects very well with a young audience. There were occasional lectures by superstars like David Wagner which were pretty good. Didn't go for office hours but she was really helpful to my friend who said that Adhikari was like a friend. Assignments were decent - a homework every week, optional lab, and two projects. Homeworks would take a coupe of hours each and helped in reinforcing and applying the concepts. The projects were easy if you had previous experience with Python. The first project was a bit boring - more about getting used to Python and the data science package, etc. But the second one was pretty good - machine learning: building a k-nearest neighbours classifier to classify a song into its genre on the basis of lyrics. Sad to see none of this Machine Learning stuff on the exams though. Exams were fair but they had quite a high mean compared to the other CS lower division courses. So, you had to really well on the exams. The staff-developed Data Science package in Python made life easier when it came to the labs, homeworks and projects. Projects weren't too time consuming. My TA Henry Milner was pretty clear in his concepts and very helpful. The online textbook was well written and was enough - didn't need to attend the lectures or watch the webcast. Would be updated slowly sometimes, though. Overall, not a difficult class, not too much work but not too useful either.

Comment: She's a badass. Super awesome prof. For those of you seriously interested in Statistics, don't take 20. There's so much plug-and-chug and not enough of the theory. I'd recommend taking Stat 134 and Math 55.

Comment: Great lecturer! She presents the material in an extremely clear way. Even though I sometimes knew the material already, I still find it very helpful to attend lectures; I always came out of lecture with a better grasp of the material. I would be very tempted to take any class she teaches in the future!

Comment: Good professor. Very clear and concise. Going to lecture was worth it. A good not terribly difficult intro to probability theory. The distribution was really terrible though. I scored within the top ~15% of students on the final and midterm and still got an A-.

Comment: Workload: 8 long homework problems a week from the textbook, plus tons of optional recommended problems. Grading: Exams are difficult but fair. She only tested concepts you should know from homework.. But it's a lot of information to remember and keep organized in your head. There were no surprises on the midterm or final. Time pressure on the midterm, though. Teaching: She is very good at teaching and cares about her students

Comment: Overall, I loved taking Stat 20 with Ahikari! She is clearly passionate, intelligent, and an excellent lecturer. This was actually one of the best courses I have taken at UC Berkeley. She is very organized and has an excellent style of teaching. I like that she does not assign busywork. Homework is not mandatory, which I think helps the curve. My only regret is that the curve for this course is difficult (20% A's, B-/C+ average and all students really want an A). I was above the 80th percentile for most of the course, but ended up earning a B+ in the class. Still, I am very happy that I took the course with her as my professor, and would suggest her for anyone who needs this course!

Comment: I love Professor Adhikari's lecturing style! She's helpful and enthusiastic and she really encourages class participation. She's really blunt though so if you give a wrong or stupid answer, she'll call you out for it. There's no homework and discussion is optional. 4 quizzes, 1 midterm. Lowest quiz grade is dropped and if you do worse on your final exam than you do on your midterm, then your midterm score replaces your final score.

Comment: Prof. Adhikari is one of the best professors at UC Berkeley. She is so funny and smart and she actually knows how to teach! That final exam but designed to establish a bell curve for the class, but other than that everything was fair. Bottom line: Prof. Adhikari can walk on water.
