Comment: Pretty cool class, was a great intro to the topic of public health as I previously knew very little. I definitely recommend taking the optional section. Potts didn't really do anything except for arrange the guest lecturers and he might have done one lecture. The class has a pretty light workload and covers a very diverse range of topics so its definitely worth taking if you have a few units to take care of or need to get rid of either philosophy or social/behavioral breadth.

Comment: Lectures sometimes seem to overlap so information seems repetitive but all none the less the lectures are interesting. One short paper, one midterm and one final paper. No final exam.

Comment: Really easy and interesting class. It's a great way to fulfill the philosophy breadth if you're not into that. Also a good overview of public health in general. It's taught by TAs and not Dr. Potts himself, but I would highly recommend talking to him at some point because he's really interesting and the work he does is fascinating.

Comment: It is a fun class. Although it is pass or no pass. It is just one assignment a week and tests every 3-4 weeks.

Comment: Great class to cover the philosophy breadth. Each lecture has a different guest speaker (some good some bad) and the midterms are fair and easy to pass as long as you take notes in lecture and skim the reader, which is pretty short (usually 10ish pages of reading per lecture).

Comment: Easy class, interesting topics. You can only take it P/NP, so it's definitely a great supplementary course that fulfils a breadth yet keeps you interested. Got me interested in Public Health and expanded my understanding of its broad area of studies

Comment: Potts himself doesn't teach this course; rather, there is a different lecturer with a different topic in public health each week (chronic disease, alternative medicine, mental health, sexual health, etc.) The course is P/F and as long as you do the weekly assignments, attend the 2-hour lecture to do iClicker, and get 70% or higher on the exams, I don't see how you could Fail. The assignments are a joke, just fulfill the word count. The lectures are REALLY interesting, and they are the crux of the course, so I don't understand people who skip. The exams are actually kind of difficult... they are based off lectures and readings so it's a lot of memorization, not anything conceptual. I got just above passing for each exam, but my grade was boosted because I had all my homework/iClicker points. Just. Go. To. Class. It's two hours out of your week.

Comment: Easy p/np class. The quality of the class lectures really depends on which speakers come in that year, as for my class we didn't have phenomenal speakers, but I still liked that this class was so easy. Just turn in your one-page writing every week and if you're in a discussion section, just show up!
