Ratings for Powell, R L
Based on 16 ratings for this instructor.
Comment: Powell is awesome. 8AM lectures were tough for everyone involved, especially since they are slightly more theory-based, but he is able to explain concepts well. Problem sets are long and take forever, so make sure to start them early so you can attend office hours if you need help! The midterm and final are open book/note and are similar to old exams, so study off of the previous exams. If you've seen some game theory in micro, you'll have a good basic foundation to build on.

Comment: Professor powell is a pretty decent instructor. A bit dry and the lectures are much more theoretical/philosophical focused than necessary compared the tests and problem sets which are much more application focused. Homeworks are fair but take forever . The midterm and finals are open book and very similar to his old tests so they are not too hard if you look at the old exams.

Comment: Decent lecturer. There were 5 homework assignments that took forever. If you go to lecture/section and do the homeworks, the (open notes) tests are pretty manageable. Textbook was useless.

Comment: One of the best professors I have ever had at Cal! The course is fun, and he makes things clear. The homework can sometimes cost time, but it is definitely helpful for the exams.
