Comment: The first midterm was somewhat harder than I expected, but not that bad. The second one was quite easy, and I finished the final in a third of the time allotted. He's a really nice professor and a good guy, though he talks too slowly and it's easy to fall asleep because it's boring.

Comment: I took it on a P/NP basis. Astronomy is really interesting and fun but I don't think he maximize that opportunity; his teaching was just okay. I really wished I had researched and waited then take it with Filippenko next semester. Learning is always worth it.

Comment: He is passionate about what he teaches, which helps, but his voice is a bit monotone, tough to pay attention at all times. He posts up the lecture slides, along with notes for each class.

Comment: I would say that it's worth taking this class only if you're already pretty interested in astronomy and willing to put up with a lot of sleep-inducing lectures to learn more about it. Fortunately for me I was pretty interested in the subject to begin with so I think I had a more positive experience than a lot of the people in my class...but it was tough. The lectures (expect the ones given by the GSI's) were shockingly dull--most people either never came to lecture or slept right through it. He spends virtually the entire lecture period mumbling, struggling with the computer, and losing his train of thought while meanwhile the chairs in Stanley are so padded and soft, and the lights are low...so it's hard to stay awake. However, if you're excited about astronomy then I think the class is still worth it. The assignments aren't incredibly difficult if you read the book, but some of the problems require imagination and creativity. The tests are also fairly reasonable if you study thoroughly, and in my class the curve was pretty generous. The star party was fun and going to TALC is a good way to work with others and learn a bit more. On the whole I'd say this probably isn't an 'easy A' class, but it probably is easIER than a lot of classes out there. It just depends on your commitment level.

Comment: He is straight out the most boring professor in the Universe! His assignments are somewhat harder than what he normally teaches in his lecture.

Comment: Very cool guy, but what made it for me were the GSI's!
