Comment: A fantastic scholar in Chinese art (perhaps more broadly speaking, in East Asian art)! Remarkably knowledgeable in her field and those related (though sometimes there might be some trivial mistakes about history), with a great sense of humour. It is a great enjoyment to go to her lecture, but the exams require quite a lot of reciting (I do not like it because I am not born for reciting lol).

Comment: I should have listened to the person above who said it wasn't an easy class. To me, this class was harder than UGBA (that is saying a lot). Tests are horrid because you have to memorize like a hundred paintings, that essentially have very similar styles. Way harder than I had expected. You will also have pop quizzes. I couldn't keep up with the normal reading, but I made sure to read for section (which is where we had quizzes). The major quizzes were hard, and they grade it insanely hard, too. Just took the final. It was so many short answers you had to know so much about each painting. History of Art is not my cup of tea, but the professor and GSI definitely know what they are talking about if this is something you are interested in. Oh, the professor is very nice though.

Comment: Word of warning to non-art history majors: THIS CLASS IS NOT AN EASY A. It is heavy in philosophy. It is highly subjective, but Berger tries to make it objective with dull, boring, and pretentious lectures and readings. Memorize every single technique, historical event, and theory, because your grade will hinge on that. This class promotes total apathy in all but the most dedicated students. I guarantee you will find them and they may be nauseating to listen to.

Comment: Professor Berger is so nice and it's funny because she's this older white lady who cusses in class. Plus she speaks Mandarin very well. The GSIs for this class were really helpful.
